What a Whirlwind!

I'm a little behind on the blogging but we've officially moved out and we're on the road! We've had a super busy couple of weeks so I'll hit the highlights here:

-We said goodbye to Olivia's at-home speech teacher, Kami, and her speech therapist, Pam. Olivia has been working with Kami for almost a year and Pam for over a year and a half so it was really hard to say goodbye to each of them. When Pam began working with Olivia all she would say was "mama" and "dada" and she would occasionally sign "more" and "please". Now she's using short sentences and her vocabulary grows more every day.

-Peter has started crawling! He is looking more like a boy every day and I just can't believe that my little baby is crawling.

-We got a referral to a fantastic physical therapist and Olivia was able to see her twice before we left. They were able to fit Olivia for some special orthopedic shoes which prevent her from walking with her toes pointed inward (in the last 4 months Olivia's ligaments in her feet have started to get a little tight so she began to walk and stand with her toes pointed inward, this happened so gradually we hardly noticed it happening). We are hoping that with stretching and her new orthopedic supports we will be able to reverse this for now.

-The packers came on Wednesday and packed our entire house in a day.

-Since the packers finished early they loaded up the moving van a day early and we were able to leave Washington a day sooner than expected.

-We said a quick goodbye to some of our closest friends in Washington and hit the road

-We moved out of our house in Washington and we're officially homeless for a while. The staff at Duke University were able to help us locate an apartment in Durham close to the hospital but we'll only be there for a couple of weeks so for the mean time we're officially homeless.

I think that's all the major stuff for now, we're enjoying our road trip across the country and I'll post more on that soon.

I am so in love with this adorable little guy! Don't you all wish you could have breakfast with such a charmer!

New Wheels

We've been talking about getting a new car for MONTHS! Seriously, we began discussing it when I was pregnant with Peter. We went back and forth, weighing options. When we found out that Olivia's transplant was approved we started discussing it more seriously. Olivia will most likely be in the hospital for several months so we really won't need two cars during that time and the thought of driving both cars all the way cross country to North Carolina was not appealing at all. We decided that this would be a great time to transition from being a two car family to a one car family. We traded in the Audi and used the Durango as a downpayment and we are now the proud owners of a 2009 GMC Acadia.

I am so thankful that our little family of four now has new wheels to make it safely and comfortably all the way to North Carolina. The wait was well worth it. I love our new car and I love that we made the decision together. We get free onstar for a year and while it's definately something that you can live without it is a pretty nifty tool to have around. I love that the back seats slide up so I can easily reach the kids from the front seat. The gas milage is fantastic (especially when compared to the preimum gas we had to put in the audi and the 12 MPG that the Durango was getting). But my favorite feature is the bluetooth in the car! I love it and it makes me look forward to the 3000 mile trip from here to North Carolina.

Snip Snip, Peter's first Haircut

Peter had his first haircut yesterday. I am so amused by my reaction to Peter's haircut as opposed to Olivia's haircut. With Olivia I experienced nothing but happiness, a little girl's haircut didn't seem to be a big deal at all, the first of many trips to the salon. They trimmed her hair a little and gave her some bangs. It's just hair, it'll grow back. Peter was a completely different story. I still get tears in my eyes thinking about my little boy and his first big boy haircut. I don't know if it's the difference between boys and girls, or the oldest and youngest thing. The point is I'm just a crying mess over all of it. Peter is just as adorable as ever but his little baby hair is gone, he looks like such a big boy now! He did a great job, he sat in the chair (an antique tractor seat) all by himself, they even used the trimmer to do his little sideburns! I can't believe that I'm still crying about it.
