Road Trippin'

We're heading out on one last road trip this summer. We decided to squeeze in some grandparent time before Olivia starts school at the end of August so we're heading to New Orleans and Houston. If you live in one of those areas and would like to get together then please email, call or text me. Unlike our vacation I have not really done any planning for this trip. I'm feeling totally disorganized and unprepared, YIKES! Check back in a couple of weeks for the recap.

Tale of Despereaux

I recently learned that a movie theater here in town offered $1 movies during the week. I decided that it would be a great opportunity for a fun an inexpensive summer activity. Wednesday is our off day from therapy so we set out on our mission. We arrived at the theater and things were going great! I paid $1 for Olivia's ticket, chaperone's and kids under 2 are free. The kids both love popcorn so we loaded up with $1 popcorn and drinks. I used the stroller to get the kids into the theater. We got settled in our seats and the kids were both very excited to see the movie.

We settled in and the movie began. This was the first time in a movie theater for both kids and they were very impressed. I was thrilled! Everyone was quiet and content. I was so proud of myself for trying this new experience with both kids! Olivia was content to sit on my lap and Peter sat in his own seat next to us. Things could not have gone better! We were about about 45 minutes into the movie when disaster struck. Something bad happened to Despereaux, he got in trouble for reading books instead of eating them, he started falling down a dark hole. Peter lost it! He stood up on his seat and started yelling "MOOOUSE, MOOOOUSE, MOOOUSE". He doesn't weigh enough to hold the movie theater seat down by himself and he slid between the seat bottom and the seat back and got stuck. His precious popcorn flew up into the air and Olivia launched into another fit of giggles while Peter launched into a major temper tantrum. Sippy cups went flying and I heard them roll down the theater. Peter worked himself into a major temper tantrum and I scooped up both kids and the diaper bag and ran for the theater entrance. I decided that was it, I carried a screaming Peter back to the car. I loaded up the kids, parked the car at the door to the theater and went back in for the stroller. I consider our outing a success even though we only got half way through the movie. It was definitely worth the $4 I spent on tickets and refreshments.

Fortunately these things are easily solved.

 

In other news I am feeling a little under the weather. I moved the living room furniture around to create a baricade to keep the kids contained. We were all total couch potatoes today. I loved that Olivia and Peter took turns cuddling with me throughout the day. Mike got home before 7pm and I self medicated with an old tylenol with codine. How is it that we don't have any tylenol in our house except for infant drops. I did find an old bottle of tylenol with codine, I think it's left over from my c-section with Peter almost 2 years ago. I'm pretty sure that it's expired but I'm feeling better now and that's all I really care about at this point.

Week in Review

I know I haven't posted in a while. We've been very busy counting our blessings around here. We've all been healthy and happy. We started the week with a trip to Build-A-Bear. Olivia was given a gift certificate by her fabulous Godfather and now that we are officially allowed to be in crowded public spaces we were thrilled to head to the mall! Olivia and Peter both enjoyed picking out their new fluffy friends. Olivia chose a rabbit and Peter chose a dog. The kids aren't old enough to really get into the Build-A-Bear experience with the outfits and accessories but they did love picking out their animals and stomping on the pedal to stuff them.

 

We had a busy week getting back into the swing of things with occupational, physical, and speech therapy. Olivia and Peter were really happy to be home and playing with their toys, and sleeping in their own beds. The house is a complete disaster, there are piles of laundry all over the place but all of that can wait while I stop to play with these happy faces.



A friend of mine from Ft. Lewis moved here about 6 months ago. She just had a baby and I was able to go visit them in the hospital. I was able to meet their brand new son when he was just 27 hours old. The 30 minutes I spent holding him are the highlight of my week. There's something so soothing about holding a brand new baby!

I'm having a hard time motivating myself to clean and organize things around the house because we're planning another road trip. We're leaving next week to head to New Orleans and Houston. It's been almost 2 years since we were home and we're excited we were able to squeeze in a trip before school starts in the fall. We can't wait for family and friends to see these smiling faces!



Finally we ended the week with a trip to Chuck E. Cheese. We all had a great time. We've carried around extra tokens for over a year but Chuck E. Cheese is loaded will all kinds of kid germs so we've avoided it. We were finally able to go. Olivia and Peter both enjoyed the rides and the pizza.

And by the way, I've discovered Picasa (free photo editing software) and I'm LOVING it! I made the vacation slide show using Picasa and the photo collages above. It's super easy and fast!
