Some of our new friends

We're adjusting to our new little life here at 5200. If I had to describe what life here is like in just one sentence I would say that it's like living in a freshman dorm room but with your child, and everyone has serious health issues. We have to share common spaces like you would in a freshman doorm. The kitchen always seems to be a mess and there's always a line to use the washer or dryer. The parents are all very focused on their kids (as they should be of course) and that's similar to the way freshmen tend to be a little self-involved. Having to be in your room for the doctors rounds is similar to having to go to class. They have a couple of scheduled social activities a day that remind me of the social activities that are scheduled for freshmen. Of course given my background in higher education I think I can find a way to compare anything to a part of the college experience.

Aiden is just 2 doors down from us. You may remember Aiden and his family from some of my posts a couple of months ago. Aiden also has Sanfilippo Syndrome and he was admitted and began treatment exactly 2 weeks before Olivia did. Aiden is doing really well and hopefully will be able to go home in the next couple of weeks!

Rachel is an adorable little girl who is just a year older than Olivia. She has a very rare blood disorder called Blackfan Diamond Anemia. Olivia loves to wave at Rachel when we're out getting our daily exercise and walking the halls. Rachel has the best smile.

We met Alan and his family when we were completing our pre-transplant work-up. Alan is just 3 months older than Olivia. Alan also has Sanfilippo Syndrome, type B, just like Olivia. Alan just moved into 5200 and we're so glad that he's here!
